Last Summer an estimated 250 million people across the globe took part in PlasticFreeJuly from 177 countries. For many what starts out as a simple hashtag becomes an eyeopening exploration of how we live our lives. On average a participating household will reduce their annual waste by almost 5%, and 9 out of 10 people embrace their new habits as a way of life.
PlasticFreeJuly participants contribute to a total saving of 825 million kg of plastic waste each yearPlastic Free Foundation
With 8 million metric tonnes of plastic entering the Oceans each year, plastic pollution continues to be an urgent conversation around the globe. Amid a pandemic that is pushing disposable PPE, now more than ever we need to be aware of our choices and learn quickly to cut off the role of plastics within our consumerism lifestyles.
Climate change can often feel like an overwhelming issue and whilst dramatic change is needed by politicians and law makers, we have an opportunity as the public to vote for the future we want simply by monitoring what we consume. In opening our eyes, adopting small changes, and starting a conversation we can collectively be part of a movement that turns the tide on single use plastics.
PlasticFreeJuly teaches you to be responsible and aware, that all trash goes somewhere, it impacts someone, it impacts you. It is everywhere, it is catching up with us, and the change starts with you.
