A short taxi ride from Skiathos airport is the beautiful Irida Aegean View in Megali Ammos. A dreamy, little hotel with just over a dozen rooms looking out across the sea.
The friendliest staff I’ve ever met greeted us and as we started chatting about our plans (or the lack of them) they immediately grabbed maps to tell us the best spots for dinner, sunset and how to make the most out of what could have been a whirlwind two and a half days on the island.
We were checked into the biggest and most beautiful hotel room, it was HUGE, the photos don’t do it justice, mainly because I couldn’t get it all into a shot! Crisp white double bed, sofas (yes more than one), an immaculate ensuite, a little window looking out through the olive trees and the star of the show the wrap around balcony! It was HEAVEN with views across the entire hillside and coastline.
We decided to start our stay by walking into the old port, only 20 minutes away and the perfect spot to grab a drink and explore the streets. That evening without any clear dinner plans the team at the Irida arranged a transfer to one of their sister hotels La Piscine Art Hotel, where live music played, tables surrounded the swimming pool and outdoor sofas, and bar areas set the tone for an evening of great food and wine. (Their wine cellar is worth visiting alone, grab a transfer and loose a couple of hours kicking back in the lounge areas sipping on the best selection from the local vineyards)
Breakfast was served in the shade each morning with a buffet of pastries and cakes, fruit and cereal, cooked meats, cheese, coffee and tea surrounded by bushes in full bloom and the local cat winding around everyone’s legs. For our second day the hotel team had arranged tickets for a boat trip around the island which was completely amazing and quite possibly our favourite day of the entire trip, it’s when I’m so glad to travel without set plans and schedules anymore, being able to take on the advice of the locals and roll with their recommendations is always just SO MUCH FUN and to see the pride on their faces as they get to show the very best that their home has to offer is priceless.
Our final morning wouldn’t have been complete without taking in the pool and relaxing for a few hours with a book on the loungers, hats off for a midday checkout meaning that there was no rush and we really could take our time to appreciate the hotel as much as the town we found ourselves staying in. It’s always a pet peeve of mine that late check in and early check out always means that all that time and money spent picking out beautiful accommodation often means you don’t get to fully enjoy it as you rush around taking everything in. But not at the Irida, here, you have time to soak up every last moment.
I couldn’t recommend it enough, and will not only be returning to Skiathos as soon as my bank account allows but will 100% be back to the Irida and to check out the other hotels in the Philean Resorts family. If style, service and AMAZING value is what you are after, you couldn’t find better.
