Why you need to switch to Mineral Suncream this Summer

Mineral sunscreen is more than just a new hot topic it is infinitely safer for your skin and the environment too. Baz Luhhrman said it best

If I could offer you only one tip for the future,
Sunscreen would be it
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists
whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience…

If there is one thing you do this summer, switch to mineral suncare. It is not new information that it is important to protect your skin from UVA & UVB rays but it is time to start being more mindful about what we protect our skin with.

The difference between Mineral and Chemical sun protection is simple. Whilst chemical sunscreen soaks into your skin and protects by absorbing and converting the harmful UV rays via a chemical reaction, mineral suncare creates a physical barrier on the skins surface that reflects UV away from the body as soon as it is applied. Mineral Suncare also has the added benefit of always protecting against all UV wavelengths, not just those that burn, but those that damage the deeper layers of skin causing ageing and sunspots too.

Aside from the obvious benefit of not slathering chemicals onto your skin, a hugely important part of this necessary switch is in fact about preserving our beautiful oceans. Most chemical sunscreens contain a big nasty (my own technical term) called Oxybenzone, (I will put some links at the bottom of this post to aid you with your own research) that put simply is proving increasingly more dangerous, as it continues to be linked to endometriosis, hormone disruption, low sperm count, increased skin allergies and destroyed sealife. Hawaii are actually in the process of passing a law as I write this banning certain chemicals from sunscreens across the state to prevent any further damage occurring to their coastline. Hopefully this move will be the first of many across the globe. This horrible chemical kills coral, destroying ecosystems and every time we wash it off in the shower or go swimming in the ocean it is poisoning the life that lives there.

Thankfully the switch really is simple. Gone are the days where mineral sunscreen meant thick, sticky, very white pastes to block the sun, now they are as invisible as their chemical counterparts, they are gentler on sensitive skin and more effective at protecting you. Tropic’s mineral sunscreens use naturally-derived, active ingredients zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to prevent burning and premature ageing from the sun, providing water-resistant, broad spectrum UVA & UVB protection without all those nasty chemicals. Just pure hydrating goodness that loves your skin and the world we live in.
