Many many years ago, Chester was a semi regular haunt of mine and weekends were often spent wandering around this gorgeous roman city. So when the opportunity came up to spend a blissful Saturday there again this month I jumped at it. Thanks to the powers of Instagram I’d heard about a beautiful plant-powered coffeeshop called Jaunty Goat on Northgate Street, the sister shop to their original home on Bridge Street (equally beautiful but not exclusively plantbased) and boyyyy did it not disappoint.
Effortlessly cool, this little place was CRAMMED with every table full and customers perched at the bar, I squeezed into the last window seat to take it all in. Pendant lights and plenty of houseplants make it a minimal, millennial dream but it’s mega relaxed vibes keep it genuine. A gorgeous menu brimming with breakfast and brunch options and a counter full of cakes, you certainly won’t go hungry. I tucked into the BEST pancakes I’ve had in years, with rhubarb compote and elderberry yoghurt and that oat flat white was the coffee of dreams.
(Good enough to mean that less than two hours later, I was back in the other store grabbing a takeout too…)
If you are in Chester, then you HAVE to check out this independent. I’m already counting down the days until I’m back in Cheshire and can grab a book and spend a few hours hidden away in this beautiful gem, phone off, working my way through the entire menu…anyone for a vegan feast?
