WITH LOVE FROM: Skiathos, Greece

Ahhh Skiathos. Greece had been on my bucket list for yeeears something about those beautiful dreamy islands has been calling to me, the white washed buildings, the iconic flashes of blue, the turquoise seas and the laid back life.

This summer after 2 painfully long years without leaving the country there wasn’t a doubt in my mind where we would finally find ourselves. So having picked our islands, figured out airports and after a trawl through Booking.com to find the picture perfect accommodation we were all set.

We landed in 30 degree heat and it hit like the warmest of welcomes, god it felt good to feel the sun on our skin. A brief taxi from the airport took us to our hotel for check in (which you can read alllll about here) and then it was time to settle in for 2.5 days of the best of what this beautiful island could offer!

The streets are twisting and quiet as locals set up their tables for the evenings dinner service, cobbled streets lead in every direction, best advice I can give you.. Get lost on purpose. Oh but eventually find your way to the Old Port, there’s an endless line of bars, with outdoor seating aplenty and staff that can’t do enough for you. We settled on ‘Hippie’ mainly because I wanted to take their furniture home, but we couldn’t have asked for better drinks or service, and the view is pretty spectacular too.

Eating out in Skiathos, there are so many options, my best tip, stay away from the waterfront, there the restaurants desperately try to get the tourists to sit down for pizza and burgers but it won’t take long wandering around the back streets to find endless options cooking authentic Greek food.
We were desperate to sit down at Marmita but forgot to book a table, so are chalking it up for the next visit! Their vegan moussaka looked amazing. Instead we discovered Ergon, with chic Deli vibes, fresh herbs decorating the veranda and it’s easy to tuck into a whole array of mezze plates, olives and negronis. Oh and if you want to grab a break from the sunshine look out for Yum… Me! a frozen yoghurt parlour with all the trimmings, fun seating and some of the best sorbet, perfect for an afternoon escape.

We were told the best way to explore Skiathos in our time frame was by boat, that way we could see all the highlights, including the famous Lalaria beach and so we hopped aboard the Margarita and set sail for a day of sunbathing! It was easily the best money we spent for the entire trip. 20 Euros each, 5+ hours of entertainment, 4 beach breaks, epic views, gorgeous food…you couldn’t ask for more.

Of course the next obvious thing to do from Skiathos is to explore, with ferries running every day to neighbouring islands Skopelos & Alonnisos you’d be mad not to jump aboard and see what else this stunning part of the world has to show you.
If exquisite beaches, fresh food and simple living is up your street, you are in the right place..
